Almita

Gaff Cutter (1906) 26′ David Smith

Built in 1906 by Gann and Palmer of Teignmouth, Devon to a design by F.B. Howden of Paignton for Hugh H Underhill of London and believed sailed at the Motor Yacht Club, Netley on Southampton Water.

Arrived on the Southend shore in 1911 and until the end of WWII was owned by three members of the Nore and Westcliff Yacht Clubs (later TEYC) and featured in the racing between the wars

Sold to LSC member Vic Davies in 1946 who, with his son Ray, successfully raced her into the early 1980’s. She then passed to Dick Durham, who cruised her extensively until bought by her present owner in 1992. Extensively refitted and re-rigged between 1993 and 1997, she is now used for leisurely cruising and the odd race in reasonable weather.
