About us

A Message from the Commodore

Welcome to the Leigh-on-Sea Sailing club website, we hope that you will find it useful. Our club has been organising racing on the Thames Estuary for the best part of a century, and dinghy and cruiser sailing continues to be the main purpose of the club. There is also an active cadet section and RYA training run for both adults and children. In addition to being a recognized RYA training centre, the club has achieved Volvo Champion Club status. Several open sailing events take place, including a well established Brass Monkey race. With close links to the local sea scouts, the Old Leigh Regatta and other organisations, the club is a central part of the community. The club-house itself is based in the old Leigh Railway station, and in the last few years has been extensively renovated. The recent addition of an atrium to the rear of the building has completed this work. Social and family events are run throughout the year, and new members are welcome. Potential new members are encouraged to visit the club on Friday evening or Sunday lunchtime and find out more.

Dinghy Storage & Cruiser Moorings

The club has approximately 170 dingy spaces on wooden platforms "racks" extending over the shore and water. Launching is via wooden slipways. There is also limited space adjacent to the clubhouse. Yacht tenders can be stored on the racks. Drying yacht moorings are available on the foreshore and in local creeks.

Visiting yachts and crews are welcome. Dinghy sailors can launch from the public slipway to the south of the club house. This is between Bell Wharf and the wharf with the Foreshore Offices. Please avoid launching from the beach, particularly at busy times. Visitors are welcome to join in our club dinghy racing, but will not qualify for trophies.
For open events, parking and boat storage is available on the "prom" to the east of the clubhouse. Please park tidily as there is limited room. The club is adjacent to a busy public beach, please take particular care when manoeuvring cars and boats.

Polo shirts, ties and other clothing with club insignia is usually available. Ask behind the bar, or contact Gill Levell for the current range.
