Simon Murray, an Associate member and ex-LSC cadet and ex-member of the 3rd Chalkwell Bay Sea Scouts graduated as an Sub-lieutenant Engineering Officer from the Royal Naval College Dartmouth on 20th February 2009. Simon, who joined the Royal Navy 6 years ago as an engineering artificer apprentice progressed rapidly through the ranks, being awarded the Captain Marrack Prize on leaving HMS Sultan, Gosport, the RN Engineering School, as an Engineering Artificer. He than attended Portsmouth University and took a First Class honours degree in Mechanical Engineering. Simon spent a year at sea on the aircraft carrier HMS Invincible and 6 months on the Destroyer HMS York. He is currently awaiting drafting to sea prior to a return to HMS Sultan. Simon still finds time to sail regularly for the Royal Navy in New Zealand and Croatia as well as many UK-based events including the Fastnet Race, as well as dinghy sailing in the Solent.
